As “Fashion Week 18” kicks off in New York this week, although I am not attending in person this season, I’m definitely watching shows online, and keeping my eye on emerging trends to share with you.  One trend that’s being spotted everywhere lately, and that certainly seems to be popular, is print mixing.  Mixing prints can be a fun way to create stylish and different looks, but it can sometimes be a challenge to pull together with confidence, so in today’s “Style Guide,” I’m sharing a few tips for wearing mixed prints.

Style Guide:  5 Tips For Wearing Mixed Prints

Start Slow – If mixing prints looks like a style you might want to try, start slow, by mixing just two prints that have simple clean lines.  This will help make mixing prints much easier.

Stick With The Same Color Palette – Staying within the same color palette can help keep the look from appearing totally overdone, and gives you a foundation of colors to work with.

Add A Mix Of Textures And Shapes – Combining textures (silk, wool, etc.), will give your look a chic and effortless feel, and can add more interest to the overall style.

Throw In A Third Print – Once you’ve styled two prints in a look, you can always add a third print with accessories or an additional piece in the outfit.  Just try to stay within the same color palette.

Pick A Few Neutrals To Ground The Look – To keep a mixed print look from going off the rails, add a few neutral pieces to ground the look, like a black or other neutral colored bag or shoe.

I hope today’s post has given you a few helpful tips for trying mixed print looks.  For this look, I paired my Check Coat (old, similar here and here) with my Stripe Blouse (old; similar here), and my Polka Dot Trousers (also, love these here).  I added my Suede Ankle Strap Pumps (sold out, similar here, here and here),  and my Chanel Bag (also, similar here).  You can shop these items or similar items in the post, by clicking the photos below in “Shop This Post,” or by clicking the links above in “Outfit Details.”
