The Look For Less:
Whenever I’m asked to describe the style of my blog, my response is always “The style of my blog is very feminine and girly.” I say this because I am a big fan of mostly soft colors (neutrals, pinks and pastels), feminine fabrics (silks and lace), and I simply adore skirts and dresses with very flowy, girly silhouettes. Today, I thought I would mix it up a little and pair the sturdy look and fabric of this denim shirt, with a feminine style midi skirt.
Now, I normally would have styled this BR Ivory Ponte Midi Skirt with a floral, lace or mesh top, but it was fun to try this combination. The GAP bleached denim shirt was perfect for me, because of the soft hue. For accessories, I added my Schutz laser cut booties, and my Rebecca Minkoff quilted crossbody bag. I was able to stay with a somewhat neutral color palette with my clothing, while being drawn to the beautiful colors of one of my favorite flowers, peonies, as well as other colorful plants on my way home.
Denim shirts are timeless and can be worn in a variety of ways, so in today’s “Style Guide,” I’m sharing a few ideas on how you can wear this very versatile closet staple.
Style Guide: Denim Shirt Styling Tips
Pair it with your favorite floral dress or frilly skirt – Don’t let the utilitarian look of the denim shirt trick you in to believing it can’t be paired with softer items. Pairing the two adds a nice juxtaposition to anything soft and feminine.
Try the denim on denim trend – Trying pairing the denim shirt with a pair of skinny or boyfriend jeans. Be sure to mix the washes when doing this to break up the top and bottom, and be on trend.
Pair it with a blazer – For a more casual work look, or even a night out with the girls, wear it with a nice boyfriend blazer, and a nice pair of pants for a pulled together outfit.
Wear it as a jacket – You can simply add a nice tank or tee underneath the shirt, and pair it with a bottom of your choice for a relaxed and stylish look.
I hope these “Style Guide” tips were helpful. Styling the denim shirt can be easy and effortless, as most of the styling pieces you probably already have in your closet.
