Bag: Micahel Kors Satchel (Old); Similar here
To me, everyone should have a few go-to pieces in their wardrobe that can be called upon when pulling together a quick last minute outfit. I have a few of those pieces, and one of my favorite go-to pieces, is a crisp white blouse. A white blouse is one of my closet staples because it is not only classic and timeless, it’s also very versatile and pairs well with everything.
For this outfit, a paired my Banana Republic Riley-Fit White Sleeveless Shirt with my Free People flare jeans. I added my Steve Madden Stecy Sandal and my Zac Posen East/West Satchel, and tied my Banana Republic silk scarf on my bag. I have a few white blouses in my closet, and this sleeveless one from Banana Republic is perfect for warm weather days. This white blouse can be worn with everything from skirts to pants and jeans, and can even be worn over a summer sundress for an added stylish layer. In building a complete wardrobe, I think it’s a great idea to have a few timeless pieces that help to build a strong foundation for putting together a great outfit. In today’s “Style Guide”, I’m sharing a wardrobe basics checklist that will ensure you have the items needed in your closet to create stylish looks year round.
Style Guide: A Wardrobe Basics Checklist
A Black Tank – A black tank is universal and can easily be dress up or down with a skirt or dark denim.
A Short Sleeve White T-Shirt – Skip the costly designer ones and opt for less expensive versions, so they can be easily replaced as needed.
A Short Sleeve Black T-Shirt – Perfect for pairing with jeans or cropped pants for a chic casual look.
A Long Sleeve White Or Black T-Shirt – These are perfect for layering during spring and fall, and they can easily be worn under jackets or layered under a dress.
A Black Turtleneck – A great closet staple to have. Consider investing in cashmere, for a piece that offers more warmth with less bulk.
A White Button Down Shirt – Fitted ones work better. They are easier to tuck in and look great when left out.
A Crisp White Blouse – Whether long or short sleeve, this piece can expand your wardrobe quickly.
A Crewneck Sweater – Cotton or wool knits layer easily for versatility and comfort.
A Cardigan – A neutral shade goes with everything, and a longer style works for every body type.
A Black Dress – A closet necessity that works for any event or occasion.
A White Dress – A perfect alternative to the LBD (Little Black Dress).
A Pencil Skirt – A classic desk to dinner piece.
Jeans – A dark, bootcut, stretch pair is an ideal jean to have in your wardrobe.
Black Pants – To get the most from this wardrobe staple, pick an all-season fabric.
Skinny Jeans – This denim staple works best when they are not too fitted at the waist.
Khaki Pants – A flat front pair is perfect for a casual comfortable look.
Denim Jacket – A dark wash and slim fit looks more polished.
Cropped Jacket – Made famous by Coco Chanel, this piece has become a fashion mainstay. Get more wear with a solid color or traditional tweed.
Black Cashmere Wrap – A piece that was once only seen in fall and winter, has now become a year-round regular.
Neutral Ballet Flats – Sophisticated and practical, ballet flats are easy on the feet and more polished than sneakers.
Basic Black Pumps – This staple can take you from day to evening without missing a step.
Metallic Evening Shoes – Be party ready at all times with a metallic strappy sandal or pump.
If you’re looking to build or maintain a strong wardrobe foundation, I hope this “Style Guide” checklist has been helpful.
