Beauty Week: 3 Great Homemade Facials You Should Try

Homemade FacialsHomemade FacialsHomemade FacialsHomemade FacialsHomemade FacialsHomemade FacialsHomemade FacialsThis week is “Beauty Week” on Lulu With Grace, and I’ll be highlighting a few of my personal beauty essentials, starting today with three great homemade facials you should try.  Most people who know me, know that I am a skincare addict.  I love learning about and trying new skincare products and regimens, and truly enjoy taking care of my skin.  Today, I’m featuring three great homemade facials that you can make using items you probably already have in your kitchen.  Now, in addition to getting regular spa facials, I also like to keep my skin exfoliated using my DIY at home facial masks.  These facial masks are perfect if you don’t have time for spa facials, and are also great to use in between your regular spa facial appointments.

The three homemade facials I’m sharing with you today require just a few ingredients, ground oats, honey, lemon juice, yogurt, and tea tree oil.  Each facial mask recipe only requires a few of these items.  I typically use the organic versions of these ingredients, but non-organic versions work well also.  The recipes are very easy, and the steps for applying the masks are really simple.  Before applying each mask, be sure to protect your hair and clothing, and start with a clean face.  Each mask recipe and its benefits are below.

The Basic Mask – This mask is a great rejuvenating mask, that exfoliates the skin, and smooths the skins texture.  The ground oats serve as an exfoliant, and the honey moisturizes the skin.

Recipe:

3 tablespoons of ground oats

1 tablespoon of hot water

1 tablespoon of honey

Steps:

Combine oats and hot water and let cool

Add honey

Mix/stir until fully combined

Apply to skin in a circular motion

Leave on for 10-15 minutes

Rinse with cool water using circular motions

Follow with a toner (if used regularly) and a moisturizer

The Soothing Mask – This mask is perfect for calming and soothing the skin from any irritation or sun exposure.  The addition of yogurt to this mask provides calcium, protein, and vitamin D all important to skin health.

Recipe:

1 tablespoon of ground oats

1 teaspoon of honey

1 teaspoon of yogurt

Steps:

Combine oats, honey and yogurt

Mix/stir until you have a thick paste

Apply to the skin in a circular motion

Leave on for 15-20 minutes

Rinse with cool water using circular motions

Follow with a moisturizer

The Acne Mask – This mask is ideal for acne skin conditions.  The oats serve as an exfoliant and anti-inflammatory agent, the honey provides antibacterial and antioxidant benefits while also moisturizing the skin, the lemon provides antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, and the tea tree oil acts as a toner and antiseptic.

Recipe:

2 tablespoons ground oats

1 tablespoon hot water

1 tablespoon honey

1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice (fresh is best, but I have used organic concentrate)

1/2 teaspoon tea tree oil

Steps:

Combine oats, honey, lemon juice, teatree oil

Mix/stir until a paste is formed

Apply in a circular motion

Leave on for 10-15 minutes

Rinse with cool water using circular motions

Follow with an oil free moisturizer

I tried the Acne mask because I love the holistic properties of the Tea Tree oil, Kristi. I can see a noticeable difference with the very first application. I have fairly sensitive skin and I find this mask to be soothing.

    Thanks for these facials tips!
