The Look For Less:
Shoe: Charlotte Russe Studded Strappy Pointed Toe Pump (Buy 1 Get 1 For $10)
Well, last week I played with a pop of color, this week on Monday, I played with a pop of print, and in today’s post, I’m putting it all together by mixing and matching color and prints. Now, for most of us, it’s easy to get in the habit of playing it safe and sticking with colors we’re most comfortable with, and staying away from prints altogether for one reason or another. Mixing a pop of color with prints in one outfit may seem like a challenge for some, but here are four quick tips to get you mixing it up in no time.
1. Choose one piece to build a color palette around, and go from there. In this outfit, the mustard yellow wrap coat was the starting piece, and the rest of the color palette and outfit pieces were coordinated from there.
2. Be sure the pieces in your outfit are in colors that compliment each other. In this look, the black and white top was a piece used to compliment the wrap coat, and the additional pop of print with the leopard bag included colors that work well with the wrap coat also.
3. Combine prints that have one color in common. In this outfit, the black in the top and the black tones in the leopard bag were the common print color.
4. Balance the pop of color with a neutral or basic color strategically placed in the outfit to pull it all together. In this pairing, the white jeans act as a neutralizer for the prints and color in the outfit, and the black shoes add another grounding point to finish off the look. Also, the leopard print bag can easily be considered a neutral.
This was a fun outfit to put together. If you are looking for a very lightweight wrap coat for a pop of color, this Forever 21 Maxi Wrap Coat is perfect. It can be belted or worn open as pictured. I plan to wear it with a dress, and skirt also. It’s a great purchase for the price. I love the black and white top from Banana Republic. It has a boxy fit, so it is so easy and comfortable to wear with skinny jeans, a skirt and shorts. It has been sold out previously online, but is now available again. Everyone needs a good pair of white jeans, and it is pretty hard to go wrong with any white jean you select. The t-strap Banana Republic pumps are one of my favorites. They can be easily worn with jeans, dress pants, a dress or a skirt. They have been in high demand, so limited sizes are available, but there are a few good alternative options provided.
If you’ve ever been hesitant about mixing pops of color and prints, I hope these tips will help you get more comfortable with mixing it up.
